Brabham and Heinemeier Hansson: Silverstone Free Practice 2 Recap

Silverstone, England – April 10, 2015 – The first day of on-track action for the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) is complete at the Silverstone Circuit. All six Tequila Patrón ESM drivers turned laps during the two free practice sessions Friday afternoon. After logging three-hours of track time today, Tequila Patrón ESM heads into Saturday’s final practice and qualifying session with high confidence. In less than 48 hours, the team will be competing in the Six Hours of Silverstone, the opening race of the FIA WEC.

Scott Sharp and David Heinemeier Hansson drove the No. 30 Tequila Patrón ESM Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) during the second session. The duo improved their fastest time from the first session by nearly three seconds. Still fifth quickest, the No. 30 lineup posted a fastest lap of 1:51.906 (189.5 kph).

“Our first day ended well,” said Heinemeier Hansson. “I might have been a little nervous in the first session when we were off pace, but we made a bunch of little tweaks before the second session. The car ended up in a really good, dependable position, which is what you need here at Silverstone. Once we got the car tuned to where we needed it to be, it really came to us. This was a great practice session. I love the WEC format with two 90-minute practice sessions, and there were no red flags. It was great to be back running solid, consistent laps without interruption. We’re close to where we want to be.”

“This is my fifth race at Silverstone, and it’s a highlight of my season,” continued Heinemeier Hansson. “Every time I come here, I learn more and push the envelope a little bit more. It is a wonderful track. This is an ideal track for the LMP2.”

Ed Brown, Jon Fogarty and David Brabham, co-drivers of the No. 31 Tequila Patrón ESM Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD), all ran laps in the second practice. The trio was seventh quickest, with a fast lap of 1:52.497 (188.5 kph), nearly a second quicker than their time in the opening practice session. Brabham drove the Tequila Patrón-sponsored HPD for the first time since the Six Hours of Shanghai last November.

“It’s been a few years since I’ve been here at Silverstone, but it is nice to be back and with the Tequila Patrón ESM team,” said Brabham. “I logged about five laps, and at the end the car was pretty good. There was a bit of high-speed understeer, but it is drivable. If we can just fine tune that, I think we’ll be in better shape for the race. I feel bad for Johannes, since he should be here, but my plan is to fill in his gap the best I can.”

Up next for Tequila Patrón ESM is the third and final practice session on Saturday at 9 a.m., local time, followed by qualifying at 12:30 p.m.
